Three days after #PaoloPH battered Pangasinan, residents of Barangay Mancup in Calasiao are still experiencing waist-deep floodwaters, with many relying on waders to move around as boots are no longer enough to keep them dry.
Flood levels in some parts of the barangay reached up to four feet, making it impossible for light vehicles to pass. Residents said the flooding worsened after road construction altered the water flow in the area.
"Pag-umuulan talagang ganito na pag tumawid na 'yung tubig sa kabila, mas malalim pa hanggang leeg... lalo na nung nagawa 'yung kalsada mas lalong lumalim dito," Jerome Esquilona, a resident, said.
Jessie Castillo, another resident, said the persistent flooding has affected their livelihood.
"Ang problema lang dito sa baha, hindi makapasok pare-pareho, hindi kami makapagtrabaho," Castillo said.
Residents expect it will take several more days for the water to subside completely. According to them, this is normal in their area, so they expect the flood to recede in the next three days or more.
Barangay Mancup is among 12 barangays in Calasiao still flooded due to consecutive storms in recent weeks.
Kristine Joy Soriano, Head Officer of the Calasiao Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), said their latest monitoring recorded the highest flood level at about four feet.
"Meron kasi tayong monitoring na abot hanggang baywang yung taas ng baha sa kanilang area, although ito naman ay isolated doon sa pinakamababang area doon sa barangay," she said.
She added that the water level in the Marusay-Sinocalan River has slightly dropped but remains at a critical level.
"Nasa 9.3 feet above normal level po tayo base po sa ating monitoring over the weekend. Tuloy-tuloy 'yung pagtaas niya pero this morning lang po, na-observe natin na meron pong bahagyang pagbaba sa level ng tubig sa ating ilog," Soriano said.
