Classes at Juan L. Siapno Elementary School in Barangay Lasip Chico, Dagupan City remained suspended as floodwaters from recent storms continue to flood the campus.

The flood reached knee-deep inside the gym and was even deeper in the school grounds. After classes were already disrupted by a series of storms from Mirasol to Opong, students were only able to return on September 30, 2025, for three days before classes were suspended again due to flooding from Typhoon Paolo.

With classrooms unusable, the school has shifted to modular learning while also serving as an evacuation site for six families.

“Kung may evacuees pa, lilipat sila sa barangay hall ‘pag may pasok na,” Ryan Karl Franciso, administrative support staff at the school, said.

Among those staying in the school is the family of Joanna Tuazon, whose home in Purok Tres was flooded chest-deep.

“Binitbit na namin [mga gamit namin] kaysa hindi magamit sa bahay, baka masira lang po,” she said.

For Josie Alecando, the prolonged stay has taken a toll on her husband’s health.

“Kahapon, masakit likod niya. Kagabi, may sinat, linagnat,” she said.

Barangay officials said they are monitoring the evacuees’ condition closely, with health workers present to provide assistance.

“’Yung nurse namin, andito palagi, nagmo-monitor, pati BHW,” Manuel Calimlim Jr., barangay councilor, said.
