The house of one Christine Dominique Pacete in Zone 1, Barangay Tacas, Jaro, Iloilo City gets flooded often. So, she expects the rehabilitation of a floodway near her residence to be of help.
"Nakatulong ang pagpapatapos ng project na ‘yan para sa peace of mind ng mga tao dito,” Pacete said.
Rehabilitation works are being done on the revetment of the floodway. However, residents have started wondering why the project has remained uncompleted past July 2025.
According to the website of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the completion date of the said project is marked July 2025. But currently, works have hit the 74.87 percent mark only.
The project is said to be worth over P96 million implemented by the DPWH Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO).
According to Barangay Tacas Councilwoman Eva Celiz, the unfinished project poses high risk, as more typhoons are expected to hit the country and may affect Western Visayas toward the end of the year.
”Sa DPWH, kung maaari na matapos na ang project diyan sa Zone 1 dahil mahalaga ‘yan kasi baka dumating na naman ang mga bagyo at bumaha naman dyan,” Celiz said.
Celiz said that based on the status of the project, it might take more months to complete, or in 2026.
“Napansin ang trabaho, ang bagal,” Celiz added.
Pacete, the affected resident, could only hope against hope.
“Sana matapos na nila as soon as possible kasi dapat noon pa yan,” Pacete said.
GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to get a statement from DPWH-ICDEO but to no avail. The news went to the office of F. Gurrea Construction, Incorporated, the project contractor, but no one gave a statement.
