Up to 93 families or 377 individuals were evacuated from the coastal areas of Barangay Peñaplata, Samal Island due to strong waves and a sudden rise in sea levels evening on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
According to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), at least 4 houses were destroyed while 45 others were damaged.
Residents affected were moved to the designated evacuation center.
No injuries or casualties were reported, as of this writing.
Mayor Lemuel Reyes has directed all agencies and offices concerned to ensure that immediate assistance is provided to the residents affected, including food and other essentials.
The City Health Office also conducted health assessments and medical checkups at the evacuation center, where evacuees received free medicines.
Personnel of the City Engineer’s Office and the City Public Order and Safety Office are set to conduct an on-site damage assessment on Wednesday to determine the extent of the damage and the next steps for recovery.
