A couple was killed after they were hit by a car driven by a police trainee while they were fixing their motorcycle by the road in Barangay Apopong, General Santos City on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Authorities found the 43-year-old wife lifeless at the scene while her husband was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO), the couple had pulled over to repair their motorcycle when the car suddenly hit them.

“As on the witness account parang may inaayos ito huminto sila sa tabi ng daanan at may inaayos sila sa kanilang sasakyan, here comes yun sasakyan ng vehicle 2 so traversing from GenSan to Polomolok heading din siya sa lane ng dalawang biktima, so tinamaan niya yung dalawa,” TEU-GSCPO Chief, Lt. Col. Patrich Elma, said.

The driver fled after the incident but was arrested later during hot pursuit.

Police identified the driver as a 27-year-old police trainee assigned at the Polomolok Municipal Police Station.

Investigators found that the trainee had no clearance or authorization to leave his training center.

Authorities are looking into how the trainee managed to reach General Santos City without clearance from his field training officer.

“Isa sa mga tiningnan nati kung bakit siya nakaabot sa Gensan without proper clearance or authority from their field training officer,” Elma said.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the trainee and his field training officer for a statement, as of this writing.
