A motorcycle rider died while his companion was injured after an SUV crashed into them in Barangay Salay, Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

Police said the SUV driver tried to overtake a jeepney but ended up hitting an approaching motorcycle.

Perlito Tuazon, chief of Mangaldan Police Station, said.

The impact threw the two riders off the motorcycle. The driver was pinned between the SUV and a parked pickup and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. His passenger suffered injuries.

Both victims were residents of Barangay Pogo, Mangaldan.

The SUV driver tested negative for alcohol in a breath test and has since spoken with the victim’s family.

Authorities said the SUV driver, the victim’s relatives, and the other parties involved have yet to issue formal statements.
