Around 397 families were displaced after heavy rains triggered flooding in Zamboanga City.
According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the families affected were forced to evacuate after floodwaters entered their houses.
Among the barangays hit the hardest are Talisayan (45 families); San Jose Gusu (227 families); Pasonanca (14 families); Tigtabon (24 families); Tugbungan (70 families); and Guiwan (84 families).
A landslide also hit Barangays Tulungatung and La Paz. Two families in Barangay Tulungatung were affected.
Most of the evacuees have returned to their homes after the floodwaters subsided.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
“Although meron pang naiwan sa area, we request our social welfare officer to relocate them to Brgy. Calarian which is now being done,” CDRRMO Head, Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, said.
Motorists also struggled to cross flooded roads in Barangay Ayala while in Sitio Barigon, Barangay Tugbungan, children were seen playing and swimming in the floodwaters.
Several houses were submerged, and some motorists were stranded after their vehicles stalled due to the rising waters.
The local government provided free rides to commuters that were stranded because of the flood.
Meanwhile, in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, residents were seen wading through floodwaters in Sitio Kayatian, Poblacion following heavy rains.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the bad weather was caused by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
