The local government of Samal Island is set to relocate families in Barangay Peñaplata displaced by strong waves and a sudden rise in sea levels brought about by the southwest monsoon or Habagat on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

Based on data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), at least four houses were destroyed while 45 others were damaged.

A total of 93 families were displaced and moved to the evacuation center.

“Di na pabalikan sa CSWD kay basin daw matumba na. Maghulat mi sa meeting sa among relocation naa naman mi lisod man didto maam walay tubig walay suga,” a resident affected said.

However, some evacuees have returned to repair the damaged portions of their houses. Others have remained at the evacuation site.
