The magnitude 7.4 earthquake that rocked Manay, Davao Oriental at 9:43 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 had shaken Iloilo City and areas of Capiz.

Employees of the Iloilo City Government went quickly out of the City Hall and converged at Plaza Libertad.

Following the incident, Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas announced the suspension of government work and classes in all levels in the city.

An inspection of the City Hall was conducted. No damages were found.

In Arevalo District, students of Ramon Avanceña National High School were seen leaving for home after the City Government declared suspension of classes.

College students bound for the Province of Iloilo had a hard time getting a ride while at the Diversion Road in Mandurriao District.

"Punuan ang jeep kasi bukas, Sabado. Ang iba uuwi sa Cabatuan, Lambunao. Nahirapan kami kasi konti lang,” Cris Dave Yamson, a student, said.  

Sarah Hazel Caro, another student, pointed out it feels safer to be at home, with one's family. 

“Mahalagang maka-uwi upang maka-prepare kami kasama ang aming nga family para indi kami matakot sa paaralan,” Caro said.

Several residents gathered at the Diversion roadside. Most of them were workers of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies, while others are customers of malls.

Employees of the Iloilo Provincial Government vacated the Capitol quickly after Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. announced of the suspension of government work and classes.

Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya also ordered a suspension of classes.

In addition, face-to-face classes were suspended in Negros Occidental.

According to PHIVOLCS, Intensity I was felt in Iloilo City and areas in Capiz.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6 has reminded the public to stay calm and to use the duck-cover-and-hold technique in dealing with the shaking.

"Huwag silang mag-panic. Ang lindol, hindi siya constant na nagpapatuloy... mahalaga na mag-remain tayong kalmado. Maghanda tayo sa pagtama ng lindol especially na tayo sa Panay, meron tayong West Panay fault, malapit tayo sa Negros Trench,” said Tina Ilustre Mayor, spokesperson of OCD 6.

PHIVOLCS first recorded the quake at magnitude 7.6 but downgraded it to 7.5 and later to 7.4.
