A magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Davao Oriental at 7:12 p.m. on October 10, 2025, just hours after a magnitude 7.4 quake rocked the area and other parts of Mindanao morning of the same day.

PHIVOLCS traced the evening quake 07.04°N, 126.82°E - 036 km S 58° E off the town of Manay, the same area where the epicenter of the earthquake in the morning was traced.

Recorded initially at magnitude 6.9, the evening quake had a depth of 010 km.

PHIVOLCS issued a tsunami warning shortly after the evening quake, which recorded the following intensities:

Intensity IV - CITY OF DAVAO; Bislig City, SURIGAO DEL NORTE

Instrumental Intensities:

Intensity IV - Magpet, COTABATO; Davao City, Digos City, DAVAO DEL SUR; Sta. Maria, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL; Nabunturan, DAVAO DE ORO; Gingoog City, MISAMIS ORIENTAL; Malungon, Alabel, SARANGANI; Tupi, SOUTH COTABATO; Hinunangan, SOUTHERN LEYTE

MAGNITUDE 7.4 QUAKE

The magnitude 7.4 earthquake in the morning damaged several structures in areas close to the epicenter.

PHIVOLCS first recorded the quake at magnitude 7.6 but downgraded it to 7.5 and later to 7.4.

PHIVOLCS also clarified that the earthquake in Davao Oriental is not connected to the earthquake that hit off Bogo City in Cebu on September 30, 2025 and the magnitude 4.4 earthquake that shook parts of Northern Luzon on October 9, 2025.

PHIVOLCS said the quake in Davao Oriental was caused by movement of the Philippine trench while the earthquake in Cebu was caused by movement of the Bogo Bay Fault.

“These are all independent earthquake generators,” said PHIVOLCS Director, Dr. Teresito Bacolcol.
