The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) made an exit call on the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bogo City, Cebu morning on Friday, October 10, 2025, urging the relocation of 44 households along the newly-named Bogo Bay Fault.
The said faultline generated the deadly 6.9 earthquake on September 30, 2025.
According to Bogo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rex Leoben Ygot, the fault system identified by PHIVOLCS is found in three barangays - Libertad, Nailon (na-ee-lon), and Dakit.
“Forty-four (44) houses along that faultline, identified na sa PHIVOLCS, so ako nang i-identify kon kinsa ni nga mga households so that ma-evacuate na gyud sila, nga dili temporary. Para di na sila mamalik sa ilang lugar,” Ygot said.
The City Government of Bogo has vowed to look for a relocation site for the affected residents of the said 44 houses.
“Kadtong nakita nato nga faultline, they were recommending nga butangan og markers, people should not be living at least pila ka meters away although he said we just correlate it with the information that would be given to us by MGB [Mines and Geosciences Bureau]. And then we just ask how to approach sinkholes moving forward, how to address these and there were specific establishments that gi-inquire sa among OBO [Office of the Building Official] kun unsay maayo nga recommendations nila to certain establishments nga naay liquefaction,” Bogo City Mayor Mayel Martinez said.
Currently, the LGU focuses on the evacuation site or tent city.
As of October 10, 2025, at least 79 families or 392 individuals dwell in the tent city in Barangay Cogon.
The Philippine Red Cross that manages the tent city aspires to accommodate over 200 families, prioritizing families with devastated houses, and with members of the family who are senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disability (PWD).
"So far 'yung mga nakuha natin na feedbacks while consultation sa mga beneficiaries natin, nagpapasalamat, they are grateful na na-accommodate sila dito sa Bogo tent city, kasi aside from the tents we provided, we have sleeping kits, hygiene kits. We are also free sa pagkaon for whole duration," Jonas Maco, camp manager, said.
Maco assured that the camp is equipped with water stations, more sanitation facilities, more doctors and medical staff members working 24/7, medicines and vitamins, and police visibility.
“Kami sa PNP [Philippine National Police] Bogo City are tasked to secure the tent city. So far, wala pang naitalang security concern dito, peaceful lang at patuloy ang atong pag-secure sa tent city, 24/7,” said MSgt. Casiano Noval III of the Bogo City Police Office.
In addition, the CDRRMO said it has not received any report on further damages in Bogo City as the magnitude 7.4 earthquake rocked Davao Oriental on October 10, 2025, citing that the tremor was not felt in the city.
PHIVOLCS first recorded the quake in Manay, Davao Oriental at magnitude 7.6 but downgraded it to 7.5 and later to 7.4.
