A female fetus placed inside a box was found dead in a drainage tunnel on a diversion road in Barangay Apopong, General Santos City on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
According to barangay officials, the fetus was found by a resident who was herding goats in the area. The resident reportedly noticed a foul odor and traced it to the tunnel the box was left.
The drainage tunnel is estimated to be around 30 to 40 feet deep.
“Dili pud nato sigurado nga taga Apopong gyud ang naghimo ato kay kana labayanan man gud, pwede taga laing barangay ang nagahimo kaniadto,” Barangay Committee on Health and Social Services Chairwoman, Councilwoman Helen Javier, said.
The fetus was turned over to authorities for proper burial.
Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the mother of the fetus and those possibly involved.
The barangay is also coordinating with health workers and local officials to verify reports of possible abortion practices in the area.
“Kung mahitabo man naa ingon ana, mahibal-an gihapon na kay ang amoang health workers, mga tanod, active sa mga ingon ana nga pagresponde kung naa report,” Javier added.
