At least 70 sinkholes have formed from the deadly September 30, 2025 earthquake in northern Cebu.

Sinkholes have formed on land and in the water near the shore.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said it is possible that more sinkholes will be formed as aftershocks continue to shake the ground.

As of October 14, 2025, the magnitude 6.9 earthquake generated at least 12,079 aftershocks, including one early dawn on October 13 that was recorded at magnitude 5.8.

One of the sinkholes also formed right on a street in Hagnaya, San Remigio, a neighboring town of Bogo City where the epicenter of the quake was traced offshore.

According to MGB, up to 40 sinkholes formed in San Remigio while 16 others formed in Bogo City. Eight sinkholes formed in Daanbantayan, two in Medellin and Tuburan, and one in Tabuelan and Tabogon.

MGB has recommended that residents move away from areas where sinkholes have formed to avoid possible risks.

The provincial government is yet to receive the final report from MGB, as of this writing. It is eyeing at the possibility of land use reclassification or rezoning in areas where sinkholes are present, as well as areas where the fault system was traced in three barangays in Bogo City, in Barangays Libertad, Nailon (na-ee-lon), and Dakit.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro said the provincial government will follow whatever MGB will recommend as it will ensure safety for residents.
