Motorists and commuters in Mangaldan, Pangasinan are calling on authorities to repair the damaged section of San Jose Duyala Street in Barangay Poblacion, where tricycles often get stuck in deep potholes.
Passengers were seen recently pushing a tricycle after one of its wheels got trapped in a hole, highlighting the worsening road condition in the area. Residents said the road has become more difficult to pass as the potholes have deepened over time.
Jay-Ar Español, a motorist, appealed to local officials to fix the road soon.
“Sana maayos na ang daan para hindi mahirapan ang mga motorista,” he said.
Bernard Batore, a pedicab driver who uses the same route daily, said he already knows where the potholes are but still struggles to avoid them.
“Masisira kasi ang sasakyan namin kung madaan sa butas,” he added.
According to the local government, the potholes developed due to successive bad weather and the frequent passage of heavy vehicles. As an immediate response, workers placed sand over the potholes to make the road passable.
Mangaldan General Services Officer Aji Cabrera said the local government has coordinated with the national government for road repairs since many of the affected sections are provincial and national roads.
“Since this is Provincial and National road pa ang iba, hindi sakop pero tinitignan naming mabuti na hindi ito makadisgrasya sa mga motorista,” Cabrera said.
The national government has reportedly committed to repair the damaged portions soon.
