A dog found in a sinkhole in San Remigio town, northern Cebu was rescued.

A video uploaded by netizen Jestoni Balili showed of a man who courageously went down the sinkhole with the use of a rope and the help of his male companions who served as his spotters.

The video showed that the man reached the bottom of the pit where a white dog was about to be rescued. The man tied a rope around the dog’s leg while the other men pulled the dog out of the sinkhole to safety.

Balili said that the incident happened on October 13, 2025 in Purok 6, Barangay Tombongon in San Remigio. He pointed out that he was in the area to check about the sinkhole, and chanced upon the men saving the dog.

He took a video of the incident which to him is quite astonishing and heart-warming.

Balili said he was not able to get the name of the man who went down the sinkhole, but he admires what he deemed as an act of heroism. He said that the man has put his life at stake in rescuing an animal.

It was not clear, though, why the dog was in the sinkhole.

Balili learned later that the dog has gone home to its owner.

The Municipality of San Remigio has at least 40 sinkholes, according to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) after the deadly magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu on September 30, 2025.

Balili is among displaced residents in San Remigio reeling from the ill effects of the powerful earthquake. He said his family lives outdoors for fear of the continuous strong tremors and aftershocks. He said he himself has prayed fervently for divine rescue from the shaking.
