An 11-year-old boy was struck by lightning in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City.
The boy was said to be hit while reportedly inside his house.
According to his mother, Marevic Palic, the boy named Nathaniel is the eldest of five siblings.
Marevic said that Nathaniel is a nice, caring boy which makes the loss all the more unbearable.
“Than, kung nasaan ka man ngayon, patawarin mo si Mama na hindi ka naisalba,” Marivec said in tears.
The incident happened in Hacienda Pitogo, Barangay Granada afternoon on October 15, 2025.
The mother narrated that Nathaniel along with his siblings were inside the house, and that they were lying in bed after lunch. Nathaniel stood up to pee, then came a loud sound similar to an explosion.
“Nakahiga na kami pagkatapos ng pananghalian. Payakap-yakap pa siya sa akin. Pagbangon niya upang umihi, bigla na lang gumanon. Binuhat ko pa, ‘To, To gising,’” Marivec said.
She said that the boy sustained wounds on the feet and chest, burns at the back of his head, and his shirt was torn.
Marivec believes lightning strike killed her son.
“Ang kanilang bahay ay may marang na kahoy. So, tumama dyan and then lumipat sa sampayan. Probably pumasok sa dingding kasi ang kanilang bahay ay napapaligiran ng kawayan. Nakita rin doon na may tama ng kidlat,” according to Captain Hazel Oropel, officer in charge of Bacolod City Police Station 5.
Barangay Granada has extended assistance for the boy’s wake.
“Ang kanyang ina buntis pa. In-accommodate natin, tinulungan nating maka-avail sila ng indigent na kabaong,” Barangay Granada Chairman Armando Vito.
