At least 16 people were rescued from a distressed vessel in Sulu on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the vessel was reportedly heading to Kawit, Zamboanga City from Jolo, Sulu when it suffered from engine failure.
The vessel’s propeller was damaged after it reportedly struck floating debris while navigating the sea.
The Coast Guard Station Eastern Sulu deployed search and rescue teams to the area after receiving the report.
The 11 crew members and five passengers were rescued safely after the vessel was located off the coast of Gujangan Island in Panamao, Sulu.
The rescued individuals are in good condition, as of this writing, while the vessel was towed to Allayon Port, Luuk, Sulu.
