A person of minor age was stabbed dead by another minor in Iloilo City.
The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was stabbed dead inside Baybay Gym in Barangay Estanzuela, City Proper, Iloilo City past 3 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025.
According to Police Captain Michael Tuburan, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 7, the victim is a resident of Zone 15, Barangay Calaparan, Molo and is said to be an ex-boyfriend of the suspect’s girlfriend.
The suspect is also a 17-year-old boy, and a resident of Barangay Rizal Ibarra, City Proper.
Prior to the crime, the two minors were reportedly with their friends engaged in a drinking spree in the Rizal-Estanzuela area. However, they were asked by barangay tanods (village watchmen) to move to another place for being allegedly boisterous.
They left the area and proceeded to the Baybay Gym to hang out.
Tuburan said that the motive of the crime could be jealousy, as the victim is the former boyfriend of the suspect’s girlfriend.
Police said that having a drink too many, the two figured in a verbal tussle that led to the stabbing with the use of an unspecified sharp object.
The victim was hit on the left side of the chest twice, and another on the back.
The victim was rushed to the Iloilo Doctors Hospital but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Dr. April May Magalona, past 4:31 a.m.
Barangay officials and residents helped in the immediate arrest of the suspect.
The suspect is taken into the custody of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD).
A follow-up investigation is ongoing, as of posting time, and the processing of a case for homicide against the suspect.
Meanwhile, Tuburan reminded the parents their responsibility to guide and impose discipline upon their children, especially the minors involved.
Tuburan told parents that children learn values from their family, and that their demeanor reflects their parents’ values.
