Search continues, as of this writing, for the couple who were on board a tricab when the ground they were traveling on the Bukidnon–Davao City Road collapsed, bringing them down with the landslide on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

They fell an estimated 150 meters.

According to Aris Cabante, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the family of the couple recognized the tricab that was retrieved from the landslide site.

The Philippine Army, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection have joined the efforts to locate the couple.

“They are vegetable vendor, nagbebenta sila sa market namin after doon pauwi na po sila going to Brgy. Kahusayan doon po sila residente nung naganap po yung landslide,” Cabante said.

Authorities are searching with caution as the ground remains unstable.

TRAVEL SCHEME

Since the portion of the road affected is closed temporarily, as of this writing, the bus company operating the Cagayan de Oro City-Davao City route has implemented a “tabo system,” where passengers are transferred to another bus on the opposite side to continue their trip.

However, MDRRMO does not recommend this setup, especially for passengers with health conditions.

“We don’t recommend na yung mga nag ta-transfer dito yung mga maysakit, may hypertension at yung may medical emergencies. Medyo malayo yung lalakarin nila from point A to point B, that is why we already issued travel advisory and alternative routes,” Cabante said.

The Department of Public Works and Highways-Northern Mindanao (DPWH-10) advised motorists to take alternate routes as follows:

  • From Cagayan de Oro City to Tagum City: Jct Sayre Highway Poblacion Valencia City, Bukidnon via Kapalong - Talaingod - Valencia Road
  • From Camp 1 Maramag, Bukidnon to Davao City: Via Jct. Bukidnon- Davao City Road to Cotabato Boundary - Carmen-Kabacan-Matalam-Kidapawan, Cotabato-Digos City, Davao

The extent of damage from the landslide is still being assessed.
