At least three families were displaced while several pet animals were burned to death in separate fire incidents in General Santos City on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
The first incident occurred shortly before midday, when a fire hit the second floor of a building in Barangay Dadiangas East.
Firefighters responded immediately and managed to put the fire out.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said four animals from a pet shop on the ground floor died.
“Based sa na-recover namo nga data from the fire scene, naa’y isa ka iring ang na-save, four ka animals ang wala na’y kinabuhi ang na-recover na,” BFP GenSan Spokesperson, SFO1 Lester Muñoz, said.
The cost of damage was estimated at P1 million.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
At around 9 p.m., another fire broke out at a printing shop on Bañas Street in Barangay Dadiangas South.
The fire was put out after several minutes, but all materials inside the printing shop were destroyed.
“Karon, nakita ko, na- shock ko ba nasunog na…Wala nay pangwarta ani,” print shop worker, Isangani Ty, said.
A cafe nearby was also affected.
According to the café owner, the fire may have started from a candle left unattended as there was a power outage before the incident occurred.
“Ako to’ng na-interview to’ng ang nagrenta dinhi, ingon niya naggamit daw siya og kandila…iya daw gipalong kay natulog daw siya pero possible mao to’y nahitabo kay naa man siya thinner diha og pintura kay nisabog man daw,” the café owner, Rowena Tuason, said.
