Classes, work, and tourism-related activities in General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte have resumed on Monday, October 20, 2025, after being suspended following the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck the province on October 17.
The local government, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), issued an advisory lifting the the suspension after safety inspections were conducted.
According to the advisory, all barangays, government infrastructures, executive buildings, road, bridges, schools inspected were found safe and structurally sound, with no major damage reported.
However, a few school buildings with hairline cracks were recommended for repair and further structural assessment before reoccupation.
The suspension of classes in all levels in public and private schools, work in government offices, except those declared unsafe by inspection, and the temporary suspension of tourism-related activities such as surfing, island hopping, and related excursions have been lifted.
The local government said operations in all sectors may resume, provided that safety assessments of facilities have been conducted.
Authorities also urged the public to remain vigilant for possible aftershocks and to report any new structural damages to the MDRRMO.
