The magnitude 6.9 earthquake that rocked Cebu brought at least P171 million in damages to poultry and livestock in northern Cebu, based on initial data from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Central Visayas.
DA 7 has facilitated its intervention with the distribution of relief aid to affected individuals in the poultry and livestock sector.
The intervention is based on the result of damage assessment, said Dr. Leo Peletero, assistant chief of the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) alternate focal person of DA 7.
As for possible damage to crops, DA 7 is yet to release its data.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) assisted over 6,000 displaced workers in the poultry and livestock sector via the "Tulong Pangkabuhayan para sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program," or TUPAD .
DOLE has distributed a total of P39 million for the said workers.
It was learned from Roberto Cabardo, DOLE 7 information officer, that DOLE allocated at least P100 million for employees who lost their jobs after establishments they worked at were devastated by the powerful earthquake.
