The family of an 18-year-old student who was found dead at the Baywalk area in Barangay Maniboc, Lingayen, Pangasinan is seeking justice and believes there was foul play in his death.
The body of the victim, identified as Vhinz Immanuel Pineda, a resident of Barangay Libsong West, was found dawn on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Police said the student’s body showed signs of severe injuries.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Junmar Gonzales, chief of the Lingayen Police Station, the victim appeared to have fallen from a certain height.
“’Yung biktima, ang sabi niya is ‘fell down from higher ground.’ ‘Yung parang nanggaling sa taas, kung bakit ganun ang nangyari sa kaniya kung bakit nagkalasog-lasog,” Gonzales said.
Investigators said they found no gunshot or stab wounds on Pineda’s body, but his parents rejected the possibility that he fell by accident.
“Alam ko po talaga, may foul play kasi imposible po siyang tumalon sa may crane,” Vyrna Liza Pineda, the victim's mother, said.
Gonzales acknowledged the family’s doubts, saying they are entitled to their opinion but emphasized that police would base findings on evidence.
“Wala tayong magagawa kasi opinyon nila ’yan, kasi nagse-seek sila ng justice. Pero kami, nagdi-depend kami sa investigation,” he said.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing while they await the final autopsy results from the forensic team at Camp Crame.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family plans to seek assistance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for a separate inquiry.
As of press time, Vhinz’s remains are now at their home in Barangay Libsong West, where relatives and friends continue to mourn and call for justice.
