The number of establishments in Davao City declared off limits or restricted has increased to 15, after structural inspections were conducted following the recent series of strong earthquakes that struck the city.

According to the Office of the City Building Office (OCBO), the number of establishments issued with red tag notices, which indicate that occupancy of the building is prohibited, is now five due to severe structural damage and safety risks.

“Mao ning reason nganong naga-public advisory ta di ba so that klaro ang stand sa local government, sa city. Niingon ang city nga paminaw na mo dili na siya safe. Hangtod sa dili na ninyo ma-comply ang requirements na ni, it will remain red tag gihapon na siya,” OCBO Head, Ar. Khashayar Toghyani, said.

Didto lang particular sa area nato, dili buot pasabot ang tibuok building naay hazard, dili siya safe ang tibuok building. Portion lang sa usa ka building,” Toghyani added.

Establishments that refuse to comply with the city’s recommendations may face legal actions through the regulatory office of the local government.

The Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao and Vivaldi Residences Davao have earlier issued statements that the structural integrity of their buildings remain intact, based on the assessment of an engineering consultancy firm.

The Gaisano Mall of Davao also issued a statement that its parking building is structurally safe, adding that minor non-structural issues are being addressed.

According to the Ateneo de Davao University, the structural integrity of its buildings remains secure, and ongoing repairs are focused on architectural and auxiliary components of the Finster Hall.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to other establishments mentioned for a statement, as of this writing.

OCBO also reported that inspectors were initially denied entry by the management of a BPO company inside a mall in Ecoland, but they were later allowed to enter the building after the company was called out.

The company has been placed under yellow tag status after the inspection.

Inspections in other buildings across the city continue.
