At least 30 structures of 12 schools in the Province of Iloilo are recommended for demolition because of issues to structural integrity, following successive tremors in October 2025.

The recommendation is based on latest data from the Department of Education Schools Division Office (SDO) Iloilo furnished on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

According to Leonil Salvilla, Department of Education Iloilo spokesperson, in an interview with GMA Super Radyo Iloilo, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Section of the agency conducted its own assessment and saw the need to demolish structures for apparent cracks sustained during the series of ground shaking.

Among the structures affected are offices, Home Economics buildings, and classrooms.

Of over 1,170 schools in the province, at least 136 submitted their report to SDO-Iloilo.

Of the 136 schools, at least 12 have structures recommended for demolition, 40 recommended for rehabilitation, while 84 have hairline cracks but deemed still safe for use.

Structures recommended for demolition are located in Danao Elementary School in Pototan; Malbog Elementary School and Bayas Elementary School in Estancia, Nagpana Elementary School in Barotac Viejo; Libertad Integrated School and Talokgangan Elementary School in Banate, Nanga Integrated School, Igcocolo Elementary School, and Nalundan National High School in Guimbal; Culasi Elementary School in Ajuy, and Dalije Elementary School in Miagao.

No fixed date was set yet for the actual demolition, however one school has already secured a demolition permit reportedly.

Salvilla said the demolition will not affect classes because most schools have already adopted the blended learning set-up, while other schools have sought alternative classrooms.
