Another teacher was shot by her own husband while at school in the Province of Leyte, in less than a week.

A 39-year-old Kindergarten teacher in Matalom town was shot dead by her 49-year-old husband at about 11 a.m. on October 22, 2025 in Agbanga Elementary School.

According to the Matalom Municipal Police Station, the suspect pretended to be a delivery rider to gain access in the school premises.

The school, police said, does not have a security guard.

The teacher and her husband had a verbal tussle prior to the incident, according to the victim's co-teachers.

The victim ran reportedly inside a classroom, was chased by her husband, and shot twice. She was hit fatally on the neck.

No other person was wounded in the shooting.

Further, it was learned that the teacher filed a complaint against her husband for violence against women and children (VAW-C).

After the shooting, the suspect fled and was seen proceeding to Matalom Proper.

However, police found his lifeless body inside the comfort room of his house in Barangay Caridad Norte. A gun was found near him.

"Ang nakikita po naming motibo is itong family problem kasi months ago ito pong babae nag-file ng case, particularly VAWC or RA [Republic Act] 9262,” said Police Lt. Ronnel Cawili, officer in charge of Matalom Municipal Police Station.

Face-to-face classes at Agbanga Elementary School have been suspended, following the incident.

This is the second shooting incident in less than a week in Leyte Province involving domestic violence with teachers as victims.

To recall, a 48-year-old public school teacher was injured in a shooting incident that transpired in her own classroom past 7 a.m. on October 16, 2025 in Tanauan town.

The suspect is her own husband, deemed estranged.

She sustained gunshot wounds on the right shoulder and on the thigh, according to Tanauan Police.

Her students carried her immediately and rushed her to the hospital.

No other persons were injured in the said shooting incident.
