A 42-year-old man and his 15-year-old son died while his wife was injured after a truck carrying pineapples crashed into the motorcycle they were riding in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Based on reports, the couple had just bought food items, including a birthday cake and bread, for their other child’s birthday when the accident happened.
Police said the truck driver lost control of the vehicle when the truck reportedly lost its brakes, causing it to swerve into the opposite lane and hit the motorcycle.
“Sige ko’g bomba sa brake, wala gyud, mao tong pagtan-aw nako sa walang bahin, limpyo man, mao to’ng giliko didto. Wa kabantay nga didto pud sila padulong… mura’g nailalom man guro sila kay na-out balance man to’ng driver kay natarantar pud siya… di na man gud nako mapugngan… dili naman nako maliso ang manibela,” the truck driver said.
The truck driver was taken into police custody and asked the victims’ family for forgiveness.
“Wala gyud nako tuyua gyud… mahimo lang unta nga ako na lang kuhaon, ayaw ang bata kay luoy kaayo… wala nako damha ang ing-ana ang hitabo ba,” the truck driver added.
ANOTHER ACCIDENT
Meanwhile, in a separate accident in Barangay Poblacion, a forward truck rammed into several vehicles, including a tricycle, pickup trucks, and motorcycles.
Based on investigation, the truck was traversing the national highway when its brakes reportedly malfunctioned, causing the driver to lose control.
Three women were injured during the accident and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities said all parties involved are currently undergoing settlement procedures.
