Around 150 people were moved to evacuation centers after severe flooding hit Koronadal City, South Cotabato following heavy rains on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), 90 individuals were evacuated from Barangay Morales and 30 each from Barangay Cacub and Barangay Zone 1.

No one was reported hurt.

CDRRMO said the families affected were living near the rivers, creeks, and other waterways.

“Actually, yung mga apektadong pamilya, yun yung tumitira malapit sa riverside, creek sides, sa major waterways natin dito sa City of Koronadal,” CDRRMO Head, Cyrus Jose Urbano, said.

“Yung major creek, talagang silted na yun. So may proposal ang city government na i-implement fully yung master drainage na ginawa na ng DPWH. Instead of draining the floodwater sa Blok Creek, didiretso siya doon sa major river system which is the Marbel River dapat,” Urbano added.

A family in Barangay Morales was rescued after the floodwaters reached waist-deep level.

In Barangay Cacub, floodwaters entered several houses after the creek overflowed.

Personnel of the Philippine Red Cross also assisted in rescuing residents, especially senior citizens.

Face-to-face classes were suspended, and schools implemented distance learning due to the flooding.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the bad weather was due to the effects of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
