Commuters have started traveling early ahead of the Undas break as authorities intensified inspections in bus terminals under the Department of Transportation’s “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos.”
At around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, Rovelyn Anciado was already securing her trip ticket to Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, to avoid the long lines and heavy traffic experienced usually later in the day.
“Para po iwas traffic at para mas maaga rin po akong makauwi po sa destination po,” she said.
Personnel from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) were deployed to terminals to ensure the safety and readiness of public buses.
Michael Jade Rosal, Administrative Aide IV of LTO-Dagupan District Office, said their team closely checks each vehicle’s roadworthiness, including its lights, brakes, and registration.
“Masasabi natin na road worthy yung mga ano ma’am lalo na sa mga, dapat i-check po natin yung mga ilaw, brakes, mga ganyan po, tsaka makikita naman ma’am sa rehistro yung naka-rehistro sila,” Rosal said.
Bus companies have also increased efforts to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and their staff well-rested during the expected passenger surge.
Alvin Arenas, a driver-conductor, said he works up to 13 hours a day this week and in the coming days.
“Syempre kailangan sapat na pahinga, tulog, at syempre itong unit natin araw-araw naman na chine-check yan eh,” he said.
Frediric Ruivivar, a terminal dispatcher, said all buses undergo pre-inspection before trips.
“Yung mga bus natin dumadaan sa pre-inspection o PDI para masigurado yung bus natin ay safe,” he said.
Authorities expect thousands of passengers to travel this weekend and in the coming days, especially with the upcoming wellness break for teachers and students coinciding with the Undas observance.
