A police official was shot dead, while his companion was injured while conducting a surveillance operation in upland Cebu City.
The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has dangled a P200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Police Captain Joel Deiparine was shot to death, while Police Executive Master Sergeant Artchel Tero was injured.
The two cops are personnel of the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP - CIDG) Regional Field Unit 7.
The incident took place in Sitio Balaw, Barangay Sudlon 2 on October 25, 2025.
The suspects were identfied only as alias “Jun,” of legal age, a resident of the said barangay, and alias “Nante” who was with a yet unidentified companion.
The suspects fled and are subjects of a manhunt operation, as of this writing.
The surveillance operation is a legitimate operation in line with "Oplan Paglalansag Omega," a nationwide campaign by PNP-CIDG to intensify operations against loose firearms.
The suspects learned of the operation and blocked the motorcycle of the victims, shot them, and killed one.
Deiparine sustained several wounds, while Tero sustained minor injury.
According to Police Captain Charisma Gonzales, spokesperson of the Cebu City Police Office, the suspects are involved in gun-for-hire activities.
Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, PRO 7 director, offered P100,000 to persons who can provide accurate information on the whereabouts of the suspects.
Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival who has condemned the incident vowed an additional P100,000 to the reward money.
As of this writing, CIDG 7 has not issued a statement yet.
The family of the victim has refused an interview.
