A sudden flood hit parts of Aguilar, Pangasinan afternoon on Sunday, October 26, 2025, causing heavy traffic along Romulo Highway between Barangay Baybay and Barangay Poblacion.
Light vehicles struggled to pass through the flooded road, with some motorcycle riders forced to push their bikes to get across.
According to the Aguilar Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the flash flood was triggered by several hours of continuous rainfall.
“Malakas ang ulan kahapon, kasi mga three hours ‘yun na malakas ang buhos ng ulan,” Aguilar DRRM Officer Nicasio Sison said.
The rain began around 3 p.m. and lasted until 6 p.m., causing a nearby creek to overflow and flood the area.
PAGASA Dagupan Chief Meteorological Officer Engr. Jose Estrada Jr. explained that the recent weather conditions were caused by the shear line.
“Kung saan ang makapal na ulap, kung saan nakatapat ‘yun, ay andoon ang malakas na buhos ng ulan,” Estrada said.
He added that the rainfall recorded this month has already surpassed the average amount.
“’Yung halimbawa ngayong buwan, 300 mm ang ating rainfall amount. Lampas na doon ang naiulan na nararanasan natin,” he noted.
PAGASA reminded the public to expect more rains in the coming days due to the continuing effect of the shear line. Estrada also advised those visiting cemeteries for Undas to be prepared for sudden downpours, especially in the afternoon.
