More than 600 families in Cagayan de Oro City were evacuated after the Iponan River overflowed and caused flooding following heavy rains evening on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), the increase in water level was observed past 6 p.m., prompting the office to recommend the evacuation of residents living near the riverbanks.

Flooding affected Barangays Canitoan, Iponan, and Bulua.

CDRRMD Head, Nick Jabagat, said around 201 families were affected in Barnagay Iponan, 420 families in Barangay Canitoan, and five families sought shelter temporarily at the covered court in Barangay Bulua.

“Atong nahibal-an nga ang Bulao miabot na og 201 families and then sa Canitoan miabot na og 420 families ang Bulua na covered court naa’y lima ka pamilya,” Jabagat said.

The families affected have since returned to their homes after floodwaters subsided.

In Barangay Canitoan, officials prepared the relief packs for the affected residents.

“Magpaabot mo kung makompleto na namo ang datus kung pila ka pamilya amo kana mahatag unya or ugma sa buntag,” Barangay Canitoan Chairman Lancelot Padla said.

Meanwhile, several motorists were stranded after a landslide hit a portion of the Lumbia-Uguiaban Road in Barangay Dansolihon earlier that day.

The debris blocked the road affected, resulting in traffic delays.

After a few minutes, another landslide struck Sitio Mangalay in the same barangay.

A forward truck was almost swept away by the strong flow of mud and water, forcing passengers to jump off for safety.

All passengers of the truck were unharmed.

“So far, ang atong area sa Mangalay, passable na man pero dili pa nato paagihan. Ato sa gina-control kay at the same time, pita pa, ang tubig delikado pa gihapon, in case mag-ulan-ulan, bantayunon kaayo,” Jabagat added.

As of Monday afternoon, October 27, 2025, the Department of Public Works and Highwasy-Northern Mindanao (DPWH-10) reported that one lane of the Lumbia-Uguiaban-Bypass Road in Sitio Mangalay, Barangay Dansolihon is now passable.

On the other hand, two lanes of CDO-Airport-Bukidnon Road near Mangalay Bridge 1 are open to all types of vehicles.
