Efforts are ongoing to contain an ethanol leaking incident in one of the containment lagoons of a distillery company in Bais City, Negros Oriental.
The ethanol distillery company has admitted that the leaking incident occurred on October 24, 2025 in one of its containment facilities which caused the discoloration of seawater in the vicinity, according to a post of Bais Public Information Office on October 27, 2025.
This was also confirmed by Engr. Roseller Lobaton, head of Bais City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 to GMA Regional TV News.
Lobaton mentioned that the City Government of Bais City and the adjacent Municipality of Manjuyod met with company officials on October 27, 2025 for quick mitigation measures to pad further damage.
Further, Bais City PIO cited that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has advised the company to “stop immediately its operations to avoid any potential harm to nearby residents and to ensure that all of those affected will be compensated immediately.”
The company was expected to issue an official statement on the incident after the meeting.
Present in the meeting were Atty. Rachel Cawit, ethanol distillery operations manager; Mayor Raffy Andaya and Vice Mayor Jeremiah Andaya of the Local Government Unit of Manjuyod; Atty. Lloyd Jeson Elmaco, Bais City Legal Officer; Atty. Romela Mae Napao, Bais City administrator; Daisy Marie Gesim, Bais City senior aquaculturist/officer in charge-Department of Agriculture; Melijon Buquiran, Bais City Environment and Natural Resources Officer; and officials of affected barangays.
