At least six individuals of about 1,000 public transport drivers and fare collectors (konduktor) in Panay Island tested positive for illegal drugs in a surprise drug test on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

The drivers and konduktors underwent a surprise drug test in line with “Oplan Harabas” of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 6.

The drug test was carried out simultaneously in Iloilo City; Malay, Aklan; Roxas City, Capiz; and San Jose, Antique.

In an initial result, six individuals were found positive of the use of illegal drugs but will go through confirmatory test yet, according to Ralph Rommel Torres, PDEA 6 regional director.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6 inspected buses for complete documents and car accessories at the terminal of Barangay Camalig, Jaro District, Iloilo City.

Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan, LTO 6 regional director, reminded travelers to check the condition of their vehicles and their fitness to drive using the safety mnemonics – BLOWBAGETS – which stands for brakes, lights, oil, water, battery, air, gas, engine, tires, and self.

LTO has mounted its passenger assistance desk at transport terminals.

According to a few staff members of a bus company, normal schedule of trips will be observed. However, the number of units will be augmented as the need arises.

In addition, the Iloilo City Police Office has deployed at least 721 police personnel at 19 cemeteries in the city beginning October 29, 2025.
