Steel bars from a few tombs at Sipalay City Public Cemetery in Negros Occidental were stolen.
According to the police, cemetery-goers on a cleanup days ahead of the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day found tombs with missing steel bars.
It is believed that the theft incident was perpetrated weeks back.
Later, police identified three persons, reportedly of minor ages, who took the steel bars.
They were summoned by the authorities along with their parents.
Police said that the juveniles underwent counseling.
The authorities pointed out that the iron rods were not recovered, having been sold as scrap.
Further, families of the deceased have shown less interest in filing a complaint against the three suspects.
“Ginawang scrap ng mga bata. Pagdating dito sa station ininterview sila ng WCPD [Women and Children Protection Desk]. Actually, umamin ang mga inendorso ditong mga menor de edad,” Lt. Cepriano Lumanog III, deputy chief of Sipalay City Police Station, said.
