Vice Mayor Katrina Theresa Angeles officially took her oath as the new mayor of Tarlac City on Thursday, October 30, 2025, following the final ruling of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) disqualifying Mayor Susan Yap-Sulit.

The oath-taking ceremony was led by Judge Eric Voltaire Pablo of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 2 in Tarlac City.

This development came after the Comelec en banc ruling, which nullified Yap-Sulit’s proclamation over residency issues, became final and executory. The commission confirmed that it did not receive a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) from the Supreme Court within five days after the decision was issued.

In an interview, Angeles said she intends to continue the programs started by her mother, former Mayor Cristy Angeles, who now serves as the representative of Tarlac’s 2nd District.

“Hindi po natin ito inasahan na mangyari pero God’s will. Panginoon na po ang nagdesisyon dito. Kailangan natin tanggapin ng buong puso. Kailangan gampanan po natin ang ating bagong responsibilidad,” Angeles said.

GMA Regional TV has reached out to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Tarlac City office for comment but has yet to receive a response.

The news team also sought Yap-Sulit’s side. In her earlier statement posted on social media on October 23, Yap-Sulit vowed to exhaust all legal remedies to defend what she called the truth.

She said she remains steadfast and dedicated to serving every Tarlac resident with honesty and a sincere heart.
