Plastic water bottles, matchboxes, and other plastic waste were among the most common trash found in public cemeteries across General Santos City after the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, 2025.

According to the Waste Management Office, garbage collection operations remained orderly.

“Hapsay ang nahitabo.. …nadugang lang ang concentration didto lang sa atung cemetery pero ang nagsulod sa atung sanitary landfill halos pareho lang,” Waste Management Office Head, Nonoy Pareja, said.

To maintain cleanliness in city streets, authorities have intensified their campaign against illegal dumping, warning violators of penalties under the city’s Sanitary Code.

“Naa ta’y Sanitary Code nato pabayron og P5,000, naa pud ta’y Ordinance 48 nato P3,000 ug P1,000 as to the littering. Naa pud pa gyud na’y community service, imprisonment depende sa iyang violations,” Pareja added.

Authorities also urged the public to report individuals caught littering.

“Pag naa mo’y makita, naa may cellphone, picture-ran ang mag plate number. It’s time na gyud kita maningkamot nga maglimpyo,” Pareja said.
