A 12-year-old died after he was carried away by floodwaters in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental as Typhoon #TinoPH triggered heavy rains, strong winds, and landslides in the province.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the boy was reported missing around noon on Monday, November 3, 2025, after he was reportedly swept away by strong water current in a drainage canal near their house in Sitio Kibalus, Barangay San Isidro.
Reports said the boy was playing with a ball that rolled toward the canal. He reportedly tried to retrieve it but the strong current swept him away. His body was found around 1 p.m.
“Ato sab gihangyo adunay declaration of suspension of classes so buot pasabot niana walay klase wala sab nagpasabot nga ato ipagawas ang atong mga bata, ipaduwa-duwa nato sa ulan, ipaligo nato sa ulan hilabi na kato mga areas nga duol sa sapa, duol sa mga canals nga dagko, duol sa mga body of water nga posibleng adunay mga aksidenteng mahitabo,” PDRRMO Chief, Fernando Vincent Dy Jr., said.
Meanwhile, heavy rains also caused landslides in several areas.
In Balingasag town, mud and debris cascaded down a mountainside, flooding parts of Punta Gorda Road in Barangay Hermano and making it look like a “waterfall.”
In Barangay Natubo, Jasaan town, a landslide blocked the provincial road in Purok 7, Taparak, leaving it impassable to motorists.
The local government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) immediately deployed heavy equipment to clear the area.
Another landslide also occurred in Barangay Kimaya, where residents worked together to remove debris that had blocked the road leading to Purok Kimamaon.
Despite the landslides and heavy rains, no major damage to houses or properties was reported in the province.
“Sayo pa yes nakita nato nga misaka ang lebel sa tubig somehow wala nagpadayun ang moderate to heavy rains ug katong nakasinati sa heavy rains,” Dy added.
Before #TinoPH made landfall, authorities had already conducted preemptive evacuations in flood-prone areas. Up to 720 families from seven towns were moved to evacuation centers.
“Let’s be observant of the weather kay dili man nag-ingon nga milabay na si Bagyong Tino pero kanang localized thunderstorm lang can already cause flooding,” Dy said.
