Pangasinan’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has ramped up preparations ahead of the anticipated impact of Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, which will take the name Uwan once inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility soon.
The storm is forecast to affect Central and Nothern Luzon.
Based on PAGASA forecast morning of Friday, November 7, 2025, Fung-Wong is expected to enter PAR by late Friday night or early Saturday.
At 10 a.m. Friday, Fung-Wong was located 1,315 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 125 km/h. It was moving west-northwest at 20 km/h.
PAGASA said Fung-Wong could intensify rapidly, reaching typhoon category within 24 hours and possibly super typhoon strength by Saturday night or Sunday morning.
The storm may make landfall over southern Isabela or northern Aurora late Sunday or early Monday before crossing Northern Luzon and exiting toward the West Philippine Sea on Monday afternoon.
According to the Pangasinan PDRRMO, a pre-disaster risk assessment was conducted as early as Thursday to ensure readiness of manpower and rescue assets. Monitoring is now in place in hazard-prone areas, including coastal, low-lying, and mountainous communities.
Assistant DRRM Officer Avenix Arenas said local governments are encouraged to move residents to safer areas before the typhoon hits.
“We strongly recommend for the LGUs to conduct preemptive evacuation habang wala pa ‘yung epekto ng napakalakas na Bagyong Uwan,” Arenas said.
The PDRRMO’s Emergency Operations Center remains under Blue Alert but may be raised to Code Red by Friday, November 8, or Saturday, November 9, depending on weather developments.
While no gale warning has been raised, the provincial government advised fishermen to stay ashore due to the looming threat of Uwan. In Dagupan City, no fishing boats were seen docked along Pantal River, while about 30 vessels in Sual have been secured as precaution.
Ajie Bersales, president of the Samahang Mangingisdang Pangasinan, said they are monitoring members closely.
“Kung nasaan ang posisyon nila. Kung kakayanin pa ng bangka o hindi na. Kung hindi na kaya ng bangka, automatic, bababa na sila,” Bersales said.
Residents near rivers remain cautious after recent flooding brought by Typhoon Nando. In Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City, Sheryl Ramos said her family is preparing and praying for safety.
“Sana po ‘pag dumating ‘yung bagyo, ‘wag naman sanang malakas,” Ramos said.
The PDRRMO urged the public to cooperate with advisories and help one another during preparations.
