The Pampanga provincial government has started moving residents to safer ground as Super Typhoon Uwan approaches Luzon, bringing strong winds and heavy rains by Sunday, November 9.

According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), 85 families or 257 individuals from the towns of Lubao, Sasmuan, Macabebe, and Masantol have already taken shelter in evacuation centers.

PAGASA has placed Pampanga under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, warning of damaging to destructive winds as Uwan continues to move closer to Central Luzon.

At 11 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the eye of Uwan was located over the coastal waters of Pandan, Catanduanes, moving west northwest at 30 kilometers per hour (km/h).

It packed maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gusts reaching up to 230 km/h.

PAGASA said Uwan is forecast to pass close to Calaguas and Polillo Islands before hitting the central portion of Aurora at or near its peak strength.
