One person died in a flash flood, while seven others were injured in Catanduanes following the onslaught of Super Typhoon #UwanPH, Governor Patrick Azanza reported Monday, November 10, 2025.
Meanwhile, 63,995 individuals or 18,287 families were forced to evacuate due to strong winds, heavy rains, and storm surges, Azanza said.
“Kakaiba sa lahat ang bagyong ito na halos kayang sakloban ang buong Pilipinas sa lawak,” Azanza said.
He said Uwan brought widespread rainfall, violent winds, and storm surges that battered the province, which led to a total power shutdown from FICELCO.
Mandatory evacuations saved many lives, especially in coastal areas, the governor said. However, he said several areas were submerged, with some barangays reporting waist-deep to roof-level floods.
“Sa aming port area nasira mismo ang seawall sa harap ng parola o lighthouse ng Coast Guard dahil sa malakas na hampas ng alon dulot ng storm surge at ang dating pasyalan na Imelda Boulevard malapit sa pier ay binaha at nagmukhang parte ng dagat,” Azanza added.
He said the province’s 19,000 prepositioned food packs from DSWD are not enough for the 88,049 individuals affected. Many residents also need roofing sheets, nails, and plywood to repair damaged homes.
The governor thanked the national government for its support. He said DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian assured him of on-ground assistance, while DICT Secretary Henry Aguda would send 37 Starlink units to restore communication and internet services.
Azanza is also thankful to private groups, religious institutions, and charities that pledged to send aid.
“Muling babangon ang mga Catandunganon. Laging nariyan ang tulong ng ating Banal na Manlilikha,” he said.
