Several areas in Opol town and El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental experienced flooding following heavy rains brought by Super Typhoon #UwanPH.
In a video taken by a resident, floodwaters were seen gushing through the main road of a subdivision in Barangay Malanang, Opol and entering several houses in the area.
Floodwaters reached almost chest-deep.
“Naggikan ang baha didto padulong dinhi walay releasanan ang tubig deretso kay naay naka parel nga sin dili mo release modirtso ra siya kataas dayon,” resident affected, Arlene Saludes, said.
Saludes urged the local government to improve the drainage system along the diversion road to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In Barangay Limunda, a man was killed after a tree reportedly fell on his house due to strong winds.
“Ang insidente nahitabo around 2 p.m. but it was reported at 5 p.m. na considering sa kalayo sa lugar 130 km ang distansya from Opol MPS,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
Meanwhile, around 206 families in El Salvador City were evacuated after floodwaters rose in Barangay Barangay Molugan and Amoros.
No injuries were reported, and residents were able to return home on Sunday.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Head, Jun Dy, said the heavy rains experienced across the province were caused by the trough of #UwanPH.
“Kita man nato unsa siya kadako igo gyud ta sa iyang rain band naka-resulta sab og ulan like for example specific heavy to intense rains diri sa lungsod sa Opol ug dakbayan sa El Salvador,” Dy said.
As of now, the situation in the province has returned to normal, and sea trips between Balingoan, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin have resumed.
