Eleven individuals who perished in a flash flood in Barangay Bacayan, Cebu City were laid to rest on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The tragedy was blamed on a flood control project that apparently defeated its purpose.
A river of tears flowed during the funeral at the Talamban Catholic Cemetery for 11 members of a family who died in the flooding in Sitio Komon, Barangay Bacayan.
The victims who are members of the Yosores and Betinol families are relatives.
Antonio Betinol lost his wife and child who were swept away by raging floodwaters. He blamed himself for not being of any help to his loved ones. He said he almost drowned, too, in the flash flood.
Betinol appealed for justice to the victims of the tragedy, blaming the proponents of flood control projects.
Several members of the Yosores family died - the matriarch, children, and grandchildren. Only the father and one child survived.
Janette Alilin, whose child married a Yosores, said she could not accept what happened to her child.
Two of her grandchildren drowned along with the mother, while the father is missing.
The search for another two persons is going on, as of this posting.
Meanwhile, clearing operations below the bridge in Bacayan continues. Authorities scoured the area for possible dead persons, as stench emits.
However, as of posting time, no dead persons were found in the said area.
