An alleged member of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) was killed in an armed encounter in Barangay Pawak, Salvador, Lanao del Norte.
According to the 1st Infantry Division (1ID), troops of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion under the Task Group Magbalantay were conducting a military operation when they engaged several members of DI-MG in an exchange of fire that lasted for about 20 minutes.
The military claimed that the armed group opened fire, prompting them to retaliate.
The fatality was identified as alias “Ibra/Abu Raas.”
Government troops also recovered two M16A1 rifles, two M14 rifles, an M203 grenade launcher, assorted ammunition, and smart phones from the clash site.
“We commend the professionalism and bravery of our troops and police partners in denying violent extremist elements a haven; we remain committed to lawful, intelligence‑driven operations to protect our communities,” JTG Magbalantay Commander, Brigadier General Ronel Manalo, said.
Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN Commander, Major General Yegor Barroquillo Jr., also lauded the troops for the dedication to fulfill their duties on the ground.
“The neutralization of a high‑value target underscores the effectiveness of coordinated operations and public cooperation; we urge citizens to continue sharing information to help dismantle extremist networks,” Barroquillo said.
