The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Central Visayas has allocated P100 million for workers affected by Typhoon Tino.
According to Atty. Roy Buenafe, DOLE 7 director, at least 780 affected workers in 151 establishments will receive financial assistance.
The financial assistance will be implemented through the TUPAD Program, or the "Tulong Pangkabuhayan Para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers.”
Through TUPAD, the affected workers will be paid the daily minimum wage for ten (10) days of work.
The workers will serve their establishments to help both employers and employees get back to work.
DOLE 7 provided the assistance first to workers in severely affected barangays in Talisay City, Liloan, Consolacion, Danao City, and Compostela in Cebu.
DOLE 7 has released an initial P4.6 million for the wages.
Aside from workers, establishments that directly stopped operations because of the flood will be given assistance also.
Further, DOLE 7 will assist informal workers whose work was stalled by calamities.
In addition, Buenafe said that DOLE 7 has ample funds for workers whose service might be extended as a TUPAD beneficiary.
