A dolphin with an injury in its tail was rescued after it was found stranded along the shore of Barangay Miputak, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and other government agencies helped lift the dolphin back into the water around 7 a.m. However, the City Agriculture Office (CAO) said the animal was too weak to swim due to strong waves.

Upon inspection, rescuers found a wound in the dolphin’s tail, believed to have been caused by sharp objects at sea.

The dolphin was given medical attention before being brought to a port for release nearby.

“Duol man pud siya sa port sa Galas amo na lang pud siyang gidayungan, kauban sa Philippine Coast Guard para didto namu siya i-release kay lalum-lalum,” Dipolog City Agriculture Fishery Technician, Ariel Salawage, said.

CAO said the animal is a Fraser’s dolphin, a species not endemic to the Philippines. It weighed about 100 kilos, measured 2.45 meters long, and was 0.64 meters wide.

Authorities believe the dolphin may have separated from its pod and was may have been carried away by the strong waves brought by #UwanPH.

CAO reminded the public not to touch or disturb stranded marine animals and, instead, report such sightings to the nearest government agency.
