At least eight classrooms at a public elementary school in Medina, Misamis Oriental were razed by fire on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

The fire broke out past 4 p.m. and was raised to second alarm.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, as of this writing.

Authorities said the classrooms affected were old and made of light materials, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

The classrooms housed Grade 2, Grade 5, and Grade 6 students.

According to the Department of Education (DepEd) Misamis Oriental, all students and teachers are safe. Face-to-face classes will also continue for all grade levels, with alternative classrooms used to ensure continuity of learning.

“Naa man other classroom nga gipagamit, gi-assure lang gyud sa school nga continuing ang learning sa mga bata wala gi-allow for now ang module so face-to-face lang gihapon sila,” DepEd-MisOr School DRRM Coordinator, Aubrey Tabor, said.

The cost of damage was estimated at more than P500,000.
