A car caught fire after colliding with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at the flyover on CM Recto Avenue in Cagayan de Oro City dawn on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Firefighters from the Cogon Fire Station responded immediately after receiving the report around 3 a.m.

The fire was raised to first alarm with damage estimated at P300,000.

Investigators said the collision caused the car to get stuck on the bridge railings.

So nakita nato nga nakumi ang iyang backside which resulted siguro sa iyang fuel tank o fuel line,” Cogon Fire Station Chief of Operations, FO3 Allen Dacillo, said.

Based on investigation conducted by the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), the car and the SUV collided on the ascending portion of the flyover.

Police said the SUV driver claimed the car swerved into their lane, but the driver of the car alleged the SUV swerved first.

All individuals on board the car escaped before the vehicle burst into flames.

There is also no dashcam video available as it was destroyed in the fire.

Both parties involved are set to meet to discuss possible next steps.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old rider died on the spot after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a trailer truck in Barangay Tablon.

Police said the motorcycle collided with the truck, which was turning toward its warehouse.

The victim was reportedly not wearing a helmet at that time.

“Pagsuta nako didto sa area wala gyud ko’y helmet nga nakita kay according pud sa iyang papa naistorya man nato gikuha kuno or nawala muna walay helmet muna kadto nga time wala siya nakasuot,” TEU-COCPO Investigator, Patrolman Christian Villalobos, said.

The truck driver was not taken into police custody as the victim’s family and the truck owner reportedly reached an agreement.
