Floodwaters in Calasiao, Pangasinan continue to recede as the Marusay River’s water level drops to seven feet above normal, lower than its previous critical level of eight feet, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

Despite the improvement, several barangays remain flooded due to accumulated rainwater, including Sitio San Pablo in Lasip, Sitio Subdivision in Lumbang, Sitio Kasintak in Longos, Sitio Binco in Buenlag, and Sitio California in Quesban. Parts of Barangays Poblacion East, Nalsian, and Talibaew are also affected.

“Isolated cases po ito doon sa mga low-lying area and usually doon sa mga compound na talagang mabababa,” Kristine Joy Soriano, spokesperson of the Calasiao DRRM Office, said.

In Barangay Talibaew, residents like Bernardo Casilang said flooding has become a regular problem whenever heavy rain or storms hit the area.

“Everytime na may bagyo. Basta lumakas ‘yung ulan. Mababa talaga ‘yung sa amin,” Casilang said.

Aside from flooding, power supply remains a major concern for residents in Talibaew and 12 other barangays still waiting for electricity restoration.

“Sana inspekyunin nila ‘yun para magkailaw na kami. Ilang araw na, wala kaming ilaw. ‘Yung mga apo ko pinapunta ko sa Dagupan ta wala kaming ilaw [at] malamok” Rowena De Vera, a resident of Talibaew, said.

Authorities appealed for patience as power restoration efforts continue.

“Patuloy ang pakikipag-coordinate ng lokal na pamahalaan sa DECORP para matugunan po ang lahat ng inyong hinaing,” Soriano added.

The Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP) earlier assured residents that restoring power to affected areas remains its top priority.
