A bag that was left unattended outside a store at the Cogon Public Market in Cagayan de Oro City sparked a bomb scare evening on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Activities along the road were halted temporarily after residents and vendors were alarmed over the unattended bag, which was feared to contain explosives.

A vendor reported the incident to the police after noticing that the man who brought the bag had already left.

Later, personnel of the Cagayan de Oro City Explosives and Canine Unit inspected the bag and found that it contained personal belongings.

“It was found out nga mga personal nga gamit ang sulod sa maong backpack and later on sa ilang pagsusi naay indibidwal nga nag-ingon nga siya ang tag-iya sa bag,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.

Police confirmed that there was no threat to the city, and they commended the concerned citizen who reported the incident because the report prompted them to respond immediately.

Authorities also reminded the public to avoid leaving bags or personal items unattended in public places to prevent unnecessary alarm.
